It’s that time of year again! October brings us spooky season, cooler weather, and playoff baseball. I love the postseason baseball matchups, they are always so electric, and getting to watch teams battle it out for the trophy is always exciting. After a crazy end to the season, the bracket is officially set!
Here are my postseason predictions for the MLB this year.
American League
AL WILD CARD
Yankees vs. Red Sox
Arguably the biggest rivalry in all of sports, the Yankees and Red Sox battle it out in a postseason wildcard showdown at Fenway on Tuesday.
New York is starting Gerrit Cole on the mound, while Boston will rely on Nathan Eovaldi to work against this Yankees lineup.
Boston had an awesome comeback win to clinch the postseason yesterday against the Nationals, and they are hoping to ride that momentum going into this game. If Gerrit Cole can be dominant through the starting innings and this Yankees lineup steps up to the plate, New York will take this one and move on into the postseason.
ALDS: Astros vs. White Sox
Pretty much the whole country is rooting against the Astros in this series after they have emerged into many people’s most hated sports teams due to the sign-stealing scandal.
The Astros are playing like one of the best teams in baseball this year. They have had their ups and their downs, but they have performed at an elite level this season. Chicago has potentially one of the best rotations and bullpens in all of baseball. Having arguably two of the best closing pitchers in the league with Craig Kimbrel and Liam Hendriks, they can be dominant through 9 innings with their pitching. They dropped off in their unbelievable numbers later in the year, but what Carlos Rodon and Lance Lynn were doing at the halfway mark was unreal.
The Astros are one of the best hitting lineups in the MLB, but this White Sox pitching unit is just going to be way too much for the Astros in this series. Tim Anderson and the Sox are going to move on.
National League
NL Wildcard
Dodgers vs. Cardinals
The stages is set in the NL as the Dodgers fell short late in the season and lost the division to the Giants. The Dodgers even though they are a wildcard team are still one of if not the best team in baseball. The rotation is absolutely dominant with Scherzer, Kershaw, Urías, and Beuhler.
The Cardinals are red hot right now, and Wainwright has pitched pretty good this year. But Max Scherzer will not let this team lose and the Dodgers will move on and take on their west coast foe.
NLDS: Brewers vs. Braves
The Brew Crew for Milwaukee takes on the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS. The Braves fought hard towards the back end of this year to get that playoff spot they were hunting for.
The Brewers took off with their division by a long shot midway towards the season. It got closer when the Cardinals went on their unbelievable run, but this team basically dominated their division all year long. Corbin Burnes could be the NL Cy young winner this year, and he’s looking to take this team deep in the playoffs.
The Braves have what it takes, but I just think this pitching core is too dominant for these Braves bats, and the Brewers will move on in the postseason.
World Series Matchup prediction
White Sox vs. Giants
The South Side Sox will take on the Giants out west in the World Series this year. When i look at two teams who have been the most dominant throughout the season, these are the two that come to mind. The Sox have a dominant young core of guys, and are going to be around and successful for years ahead. The pitching is dominant, and the Giants lineup will really have to battle against the Sox if they want to raise the trophy.
I think this will be an awesome series. SF Giants will bring another world series out west in 7 games.
