WOW! Yesterday’s opening day game was a blast to watch from my TV, I can only imagine how fun it would’ve been sitting in the bleachers watching. It felt good beating the Brewers on opening day and starting out as electric as the team did.
It was just fun. Marcus Stroman had an unbelievable performance on the mound, 6 innings of scoreless baseball only giving up three knocks. Struck out 8 batters on the day, he absolutely shoved and I had fun watching him pitch yesterday. Getting out of that bases-loaded jam was unbelievable, Stroman made the pitch and Nico and Dansby got it done on defense. Awesome play. Keegan Thompson came out and threw great as well, loved seeing him on opening day. He showed some real heat on the mound. Michael Fulmer pitched well at the end of the game, with a 4-run lead it wasn’t a save situation but I am sure in that environment on opening day it feels like one.
Dansby Swanson had three hits and an RBI yesterday and it was awesome watching him in a Cubs jersey. Nico had a knock, Happ had a knock and was constantly on base it seemed, Mancini had a hit that drove in a run, and even Yan Gomes drove in a run. They found a way to get around Corbin Burnes who is a top 5 pitcher in all of baseball.
The defense was awesome, an outstanding day, a fun opening day game, and loved beating up on the Brewers. But with that, there’s a lot of Baseball left, and I think this is going to be a very interesting season to watch for the Cubbies.
