Cubs sign Yan Gomes to a 2 year deal worth $13M

Catcher Yan Gomes is signing a two-year deal with the Chicago Cubs.

I have yet to really decide how I feel about this. Obviously, this would be a great backup for Willson next year, but I don’t know if that is the case here. This makes me think they are breaking up with Contreras, but maybe not?

This deal almost feels like a punch to the gut. You didn’t sign anyone yesterday during the madness and then the Javy news this morning. I don’t know, I think I am overreacting.

He’s 34 years old. Willson is supposed to be the new captain of his team and lead this team during what looks like will potentially be a rebuilding season. Who knows.

I guess I will have more to talk about Yan Gomes later, but right now, it is kind of frustrating.

As a player, it will be good to have him in the northside. He will take a huge load off of Contreras if they keep him and have Yan as the backup rotating in and out. I could also see Yan at the DH spot potentially?

What it comes down to for me, as long as they keep Willson Contreras, I am happy with this pickup. But looking at this right now, I have a feeling that Willson Contreras is getting traded.
